Villa B | The Cantilever House
Târgoviște, Dâmbovița
Completed 2009
Located on the banks of a watercourse, Villa B is the result of an open dialogue between the bold vision of the client and an architectural solution that defies spatial distribution conventions. The concept proposes an atypical hierarchy of functions: the intimate bedroom area occupies the ground floor, while the living and day spaces are raised to the first floor. This inversion allows the day area to benefit from ample perspectives over the surroundings, transforming the upper floor into a landscape observatory, supported by impressive concrete cantilevers that extend the space beyond the structural limits of the ground floor.
At ground level, the living experience is defined by a state of introspection and absolute tranquility. The bedrooms are oriented towards a private inner courtyard, where the presence of a reflecting pool becomes the central compositional element. This layout allows a direct visual connection with the liquid element right from the moments of rest, generating a meditative atmosphere, accentuated by the light reflections on the water's surface. The transition between the two levels is marked by a sculptural staircase, composed of massive concrete steps inserted directly into the wall. The absence of risers and the subtle lighting at the base of each element transform the staircase, during the night, into a light installation that highlights the rigor and precision of the execution.
The architecture of the villa is defined by a sophisticated play of solid volumes and glazed voids, where the vertical marking of the main access balances the strong horizontality of the cantilevers. The use of concrete walls and flat slabs facilitated the creation of these generous openings, without compromising the purity of the forms. Villa B is not just a modern home, but a sensory habitat where precious materials and fine technical details merge to shape a reality in which water, light, and concrete coexist in perfect harmony.
